Whenever I sign into MSN Messenger 6.1, I get a message saying I have been signed out of .NET messenger service. Often, even when I am NOT signed into MSN Messenger 6.1, some of my MSN buddies can send me messages (and that usually appears in Windows Messenger 4.7).
How can I uninstall Windows Messenger 4.7, and continue to use MSN Messenger 6.1? Is WM 4.7 bundled in with .NET? Anyone has any idea please? Thanks. |

you do not need to remove it, just don't load it up. or disable it.

My brother-in-law who works for M$oft says you never truely get rid of Windows Messenger even if you remove it. That said I think I went into Control Panel> Add and Remove programs> And under Windows components I was able to uncheck Windows Messenger in XP Pro. I think it's the same in Home Edition.

That's right... I did the same too. I actually have Windows Messenger UNCHECKED there (Control Panel> Add and Remove programs> And under Windows components )... but even when I am NOT signed into MSN Messenger, SOME of my contacts can send messages to me... and these appear in a Windows Messenger window!!! Also, whenever I sign into MSN Messenger, I get a message saying I have been signed out of .NET messenger because I signed in on 'another location'!!! What are you thoughts on this? |
