vital system files how to replace them

How would u go bout replacing missing system files, which may have been deleted by mistake, is there a process where you could replace them using a bootdisk?

Could someone please provide me with step by step instructions on how to do this with windows xp installed on it?

Many thanks Matt

If you have the Windows CD, do a repair install. Boot from the CD, select install, and then select repair, IIRC.
