Why wont Xp load correctly?
Hey. Im trying to reload XP onto my brother in laws computer. I bought a new hard drive, and used the CD that came with it to format and partition it.
My problem is that when I go to install XP, it installs all the files it says it needs for set up, then asks me what I want to do. No matter what option I choose, either install XP or repair XP, my computer will just restart. It will do this about 3 times in a row, after that it will come up with a blue screen saying something may be wrong with my bios or cache or something. Ive gotten a few errors while trying to do this. 1)unknown flash type 2)failure loading operating system 3)TLDR is missing Any help would be appreaciated, im stumped! |

Was the computer working properly before trying to install the new drive, or were there other problems/errors? If it wasn't you could have greater problems other than the hard drive/Windows install problem.
Since this is a clean install, try letting Windows Setup format the drive. Boot to the CD, choose install and the drive where you want to install, and choose to let Windows format the drive to NTFS (and do a full format, rather than quick). |

okay, so i replaced the power supply and the ram today. Also for no reason I replaced the cd rom and floppy drive. Still getting the same error though.
XP goes into setup, loads all the files then either gives me and error or restarts when I make a selection. Im stumped...still. |

Download diags from the hard drive manufacturer and run them. Make sure that the virus protection in the bios is disabled.
