Angry Fire New comp problems

Im having 2 different problems. 1) Sometimes when I boot the computer, as soon as it gets to the desktop, the computer restarts, then after it boots up again, its fine. After the first time it did this, a thing called "Kernel fault check-dumprep 0 -k" was added to the startup programs list. and 2)every once in awhile, all of a sudden, the mouse and keyboard will stop working, then when i restart they work again. Anyone know how I can fix these problems?

What motherboard and RAM are you using?

If you are using more than 1 stick of RAM, take one out and see if the problem happens again.

Im using the Asus A7V8X-X mobo and 1 stick 256mb RAM. Since the last time it did it, ive installed all the Windows patches and drivers for everything so maybe that will fix it.

Here's a site where you can read up on what should and shouldn't be starting on your computer at startup. It has a clearly written introduction to the whole situation, and a fairly complete list from which you can identify the processes in your startup list. http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm

If you don't currently have an antispyware (like AdAware or Search&Destroy), these are helpful for unwanted processes as well. [and of course you run an antivirus program?] AdAware is at http://www.lavasoft.de and Search&Destroy is at http://spybot.safer-networking.de/ . . . and if you need a good free antivirus, try Avast at http://www.avast.com/

High temps or underpowered power supplies can make for some odd restarts, too

[. . . along with problematic memory, like force_flow mentions! . . . it won't hurt anything to test it: http://www.simmtester.com]
