As of now I have the eZ Armour suite for antivirus and firewall. I wanted to get a system utility program to maintain my comp.
I am thinking either vcom's system suite 5 or system mechanic 4. Does anyone have any opinions regarding either of these? Also, if I were either going to get system suite, system mechanic, or drive image 7, which one would you reccommend? Comp USA is running a special this week I believe SystemSuite 5 - 40$ System Mechanic 4 - 50$ Drive Image 7 - 40$ |

I haven't used a system utility suite in 5 years, I just use the utilities already available in Windows and a few free ones off the net. Why do you feel you have to have to buy one for your system?

To be honest, I think ease of mind. I'm just afraid my comp is going to get cluttered and slow down... I think a system utility suite with diagnostics will help me maintain optimal pc efficiency.
Actually though, I think I might get the drive image 7 as it is on sale and I am paranoid of comp crashes. Cricket, what free system utilities u use from the net? |

I'm with Cricket on this one. Use the free stuff. AVG for Anti Virus, Spybot, Adaware, and Pop Up Stopper are my standard addtions for computer tune ups I do for customers. If you want to invest in some great utilities, buy the full version of Registry Healer for $19.95, Norton Ghost and Partiton Magic. Ghost and PM aren't utilites you will use all the time, but they are excellent for their intended purpose. Windows XP has great built in utilites and adding package stuff is just redundant.

I've had a bad experiences with Norton Ghost....Drive Image 7 from powerquest is also good too right? For backup purposes...
Also, for defrag, are there preformance benefits from using DiskKeeper 8 instead of windows defrag? |

Don't know of any performance benefits, but I believe Diskkeeper has a "set it and forget it" option that allows you to set a time to defrag and it just runs automatically.

I bought the sys works for the ghost mainly. I do use the speed disk (defrag) and also the wintune, (have heard bad things about that one) and the registry optimizer. Also disc doctor is pretty good. Plus the A/V.
Freebies from the net (utilities) that I use regularly are spy bot, adaware, il System Wiper, Mailwasher. Apps - Open Office, Leechget 2004, Winkey. cat |
