Why Does Drag Copy Program Files From CD to Hard Drive Often Times Miss Files
Could someone explain why often times drag copying programs from a CD to the hard drive ends up missing files.
And in some cases programs will miss files while burning to a CD. I just completely gave up trying to make a backup of Windows 2000 pro that way. It always ended up missing files. I guess that burning software must have a copy cd function to make sure the CD is copied right. It's all very mysterious. Last edited by Harry; 02-16-2004 at 03:23 PM. |

If you're referring to trying to backup entire programs by copying their folder from "Program Files" to CD....
Very few programs install themselves in one, self-contained folder. They put their .dll files in various Windows folders, put entries in the registry...pretty much scatter their files all over the drive. The only way to save an installated program is to use software designed for that purpose. I think Norton Clean Sweep has that capability. |

The only way you are going to make a working backup copy of a Win2000 CD is with a copying program - I know CloneCD works fine, Nero or Roxio's copy utility *should* work, but no guarantees.
