How to restore OS with Ghost
I am new to ghost, and know it's powerful. I created an image file of C drive, and saved the backup file named c_drive_image.gho in the drive E. All the drives C, D and E are on the same hard disk.
The quetion is the Ghost run on Windows, if the Windows XP on the drive C corrupts, then I could not start the Ghost any longer, it's also impossible to retore the file of c_drive_image.gho into the C drive, is it? To resolve the problem, I think I should mount the hard disk on another computer where Ghost has been installed, Then I can run the ghost there, and restore the image file to the corresponding drive. Is what I say right? Thanks for help? |

what you can do is make a bootable cd and and add the ghost.exe to the cd.
Restart computer with cdrom support. Then change drive letter to your CDrom and type GHOST. Then from there you can restore the image. |

You can also make a Ghost boot floppy. You should have the option of making one from within the Ghost app.

What burning software do you use?
with nero you would make a bootable Disket. Open nero up click new then select CD-Rom (Boot). All default options will do. Make sure you have your bootable disket in the drive and drag and drop the ghost.exe to the burning windows then just burn. |

I don't use Ghost. But you might have to check to see if in ANY event, your version of Ghost can read the partition your image file is sitting. You may need it on a FAT 32 partition.

Bootable to what? DOS, NTFS, Linnux?
If the version Ghost.exe ffish uses is actually executing in DOS, then the image files have to be sitting on a FAT32 partition. Ghost may have the ability to write the files to any partition. But might only be able to execute a file sitting on a FAT32? Why would it do that? You can burn the files to a CD. Use your bootable CD or floppy and restore through CDs. Sometimes direct burning to a CD burner doesn't work. |
