Spyware? searchcentral.cc
Every time i restart my computer, my home page gets changed to http://searchcentral.cc/, its really pissing me off.
When i use Hijack This it has these things pop up R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://searchcentral.cc/search.php?v=4&aff=2331 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://searchcentral.cc/index.php?v=4&aff=2331 R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://searchcentral.cc/index.php?v=4&aff=2331 i push the fix button and it goes away until i restart my computer I also used Spybot search and destroy, i fixed all the spyware and it still doesn't help I also ran my anti-virus, that doesn't pick up anything. Also, sometimes on search engines, when i push a link to goto a site, it first brings me to searchcentral.cc, then i push back, click the link again, and it finaly brings me there Does anyone know what it could be and how to get rid of it? |

Try clearing all your Temporary files, Internet Temporary Files (including the Cookies and Offline Content). Then run SpyBot again. Let it clean all it finds. Then run regedit, and use the "Find" option to search for all instances of "searchcentral" and delete those values.
Also check on your Startup groups: if you have the "System Infromation" tool (WinME/9x) in the Accessories/System Tools menus, go to "Software Environment/Startup" and check for any suspicious entries & note where they are called from. Then edit the ".ini" files, Registry items, or Startup Group to remove the searchcentral. Best of Luck . . . Gary [p.s. if it's been awhile since you've checked for updates for SpyBot - do that too] |

A good insurance policy against this sort of thing is a free program called StartPage Guard. I've been using it for a few months now since I got hijacked, and it works no prob. Get it here: http://www.downlinx.com/proghtml/333/33374.htm
