omg someone please help, think virus

ok this is REALLY pissing me off. first i noticed my computer was acting funny, like taking forever to start up. then everytime i run ad-aware i have about 50 new items, regardless if i even surf the internet or not. then i did a virus scan and i found a virus. i thought this was good and i could fix my problem, but my computer is still acting funny. i went into msconfig and noticed this "winnet" never seen it before, so i unchecked it and restarted my computer. it was back. i tried it again, but still no luck, it keeps comming back up. i pressed clt alt del and saw two unusal things that i've never seen before: winnet.exe and comwiz.exe the horrible part is every time i go to end process, it ends, but IMMEDIATLY comes right back up. i tried deleting these (C:/Program Files/Commoname/Adress Bar) but i can't delete them because there running. can somebody PLEASE help me!!

You were right - those are spyware programs. [part of the "Common Name Toolbar" spyware]. AdAware should have taken care of them if you have been keeping up the definitions and build updates (I think the current build is 181). Then again, AdAware itself may have been compromised. You can try uninstalling your current version, downloading & installing the current version, and see if it cleans your spyware/worm.

You can also add SpyBot's Search&Destroy into the mix, and see if that helps: http://spybot.safer-networking.de/

What antivirus are you running? Is it also current? If not-so-current, try an online scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com to help until you can get an up-to-date full antivirus program. [should you need a freeware/shareware version, Avast http://www.avast.com and AVG http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php have free-for-personal-use versions]

Best of luck
. . . Gary

[p.s. if your current AV is Norton, you can download the current virus definitions to a floppy & run an Emergency scan from the Norton CD (you boot from the Norton Cd). Put the current definition floppies in as prompted]

did you try deleting them in safe mode, or running ad-aware in safe mode?

I have not tried running them in safe mode. I will also have to update ad-aware, i havnt done that yet. My virus scanner is always up to date so i shouldn't have to worry about that. Ill try updating ad-aware and see if that fixes it.
