Windows XP Pro FTP setup
Alright I had Windows XP Pro setup to use FTP. And it was working fine. Now all of a sudden it wont let me log on. I have it setup so that you log on anonymously. I have it setup thru the Win XP Pro software, under control panel > administrative tools > Internet Information Services. I do have a router with built in firewall but i opened a port on it and it was working before. Im not sure why it wont let me log on, not even when i put my own pc's ip address. I've messed with setting and cant figure it out. Here is the guide I looked at to set it up:
http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1491 Ive read over it and over it and cannot figure it out.

Lets try this again. So the ip address listed under WAN is the one i want to put in the FTP properties as IP address right? and thats the address i give people to goto it? But i should be able to connect to it thru the IP address listed under LAN right, cuz its on my network?
Pic removed by mod as requested for security reasons Last edited by glc; 02-25-2004 at 02:13 PM. |

To connect to the FTP server from OUTSIDE your network, you connect to your WAN IP address (24.xxx.xxx.xxx). From INSIDE your network, you connect to the IP address of that machine (192.168.0.xxx). In order to access it from outside your network, you must use the Virtual Server settings in the D-Link to forward the appropriate ports to the 192.168.0.xxx IP.

ok i think i got it all setup now but its not letting me log on, It brings up a little "Log on as" box and i click log on anonymously and it wont let me, in the ftp options i have it set to log on anonymously, i dont get it. I have it set that way but its not letting me.
edit: i unchecked the log on anonymously box in the windows ftp properties and tried entering a user name and password to use. Using this username and password would still not let me log onto my ftp saying that the password or email address was incorrect. I switched it back to log on anonymously and tried logging on anonymously and it still didnt work. Last edited by nocturnx; 03-01-2004 at 01:53 PM. |

This is exactly the same situation I have with my website, I can't access my own IP address, but I think thats just the way it is, you cant access an IP address that is yours in the first place.

I used to be able to tho, I used to logon to my own IP using the local network IP the 192. one. So the only way to tell if my ftp is working is to have someone else connect to it?
