Instant Messenger

Which instand messenger do you use? I am only listing AIM, MSN, and ICQ not trillian or any of those types of programs...if you use Trillian or somethign similar, just say which service you use most while on trillian.

I am actually just wondering what most people use around your area....I know a lot of peopel here use AIM, but my friend who moved here from Indiana, everyone where he used to live used MSN.

IRC = Internet Relay Chat

I use mIRC and AIM. Mostly use IRC for the PCMech channel, and AIM for talking with my friends and some family members.

AIM, and then MSM (which I hate but, sadly, a lot of ppl I need to be in contact with use it so what the heck. I use Trillian anyway).

I have AIM and ICQ, and I use IRC. I also have a Yahoo account, but refuse to install their messenger.

IRC has been around a heck of a lot longer than any of the instant messaging services - even longer than the AOL chat rooms. There are a ton of IRC nets out there. MIRC is a IRC client, not the actual service, there are plenty of other clients available.

I use a telephone to chat with people.

The only reason MS Messenger is even installed on my machine is that it keeps coming back with updates from XP.

I tried AOL chat once some years ago and I had no idea what the other people were saying, I do not have the time to learn another language and if I did it would be Welsh.

Yeah I am tired and cranky - I have been at work since 7 AM and it looks like another 8 hours or so. Best part of the situation is that there is no OT for me....

I use only AIM. I don't see how people don't use any especially TwoRails and Cricket. You two are pretty popular on the Mech and with all your knowlege of computers I'm just surprised you don't use any. Just my 2 cents.

I also use Lotus Sametime at work. My company owns Lotus so why not right?

AIM & Yahoo

I used mIRC once but never really got into the whole IRC thing. I wish I knew more about it. All I know is what HAL (?) said about it being the oldest out there.

Doesn't it depend on what most of your friends use, since there is no interoperability between protocols? Most of the people I talk to in the US use AIM, and my friends back in Europe use MSN and ICQ, so I use Trillian.

Trillian 2.0 - Almost always AIM. mIRC, though I hear of what glc said earlier, I am completely oblivious to. Chatting and downloading stuff?

Yes, it can be used for both, but is primarily a chat client. Some people run scripts (like XDCC) or FServe, and share files. I use this for downloaing episodes of TV Shows like South Park and Family Guy.
