Question server software??

Hi guys,

I have an old pc that I am going to turn into a server. However I don’t know what software I should use what would you recommend (preferably free). All I really want is something to be able to host some pictures for forums as well as host a small website. Also which operating system would be best 98 second edition or XP professional? I was also thinking of putting Linux on would you recommend this as I have always wanted to give Linux a try is it good for servers?

Thanks

Some flavour of 'nix would be fine, and totally free. I run a small server for the same reasons and Red Hat is doing the job fine as it has the FTP and web server software already..

I managed to download it and install it now, I just need to learn how to use it which is more difficult then I thought.

I am going to sound so thick here but can some tell me how to access floppy drives and cd drives etc. I don’t know how to access them to save or get things off.

Post your Linux questions in the Alternative OS forum, you will get good help there.
