Outlook Express 6 - unsafe attachments

Hello,

I use Outlook Express 6 for my email, whenever i receive an attachment, file or link i get the message : ' OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail '. I get this message all the time, why would that happen? Is it anything i can do?

If this is relevant i also use the Norton SystemWorks Pro 2003 with its Norton AntiVirus which scans all the incoming and outgoing mail.

Thank you.

How about virus security? I guess is not an issue as long as some AntiVirus which scans all the incoming and outgoing mail is activated, right?

Don't open attachments you aren't expecting. If you get an attachment, contact the sender to make sure it is legit.

How about my AntiVirus program? It is supposed to scan all incoming mail. So what could be the problem?

Yes, your anti-virus is supposed to scan all e-mail. But what if it doesn't? What if it misses a virus because it is too new? What if it was accidentally (or intentionally) disabled?

Even with an anti-virus program, you still need to use common sense. Security consists of several layers, not just one.

Something else about Outhouse Express - you should disable the preview pane. Some viruses activate just by opening in the preview pane.

View Layout to edit the preview pane.

But, if you have all the M$ critical updates, this was resolved a while back.

So there's no longer the threat of a virus automatically opening in the preview pane if all updates are installed?
