Yearbook CD Program

Hi, I am taking part in my high school's yearbook program. This year, we are trying something new, and we are adding a cd to go along with the yearbook. Our problem is that we do not have a certain program for this, and our teacher says she isn't going to buy anything (pretty stubborn lady). We already are using windows movie maker, but we need something so that we can group together all the movies, and slideshows that we have made.

Does anyone know of any programs that could be downloaded for free or for a minimal price so that we can continue with our project? If we can't find a program, then all of the work that we have done so far was for a waste, and that would be sad to see.

Would powerpoint be an option?

You know, I never thought of powerpoint. If I do use powerpoint, would everyone using the cd have to have powerpoint on their computer, or could it somehow be ran through a different program?

Thanks for your insight.

there is a powerpoint viewer which is free that you could get as an add-on. i don't think you need powerpoint to view it, just to make the presentation into the special kind. doesn't make a whole lot of sense what i just said, but search for something like powerpoint viewer

From my Powerpoint 97 help file:

Prepare a presentation for use on another computer

When you want to run a slide show on another computer, you can use the Pack and Go Wizard. The wizard packages together, on a disk, all the files and fonts used in the presentation. When you intend to run your show on a computer that doesn't have PowerPoint installed, it also packages the PowerPoint Viewer on the disk.

Powerpoint isn't free, but I would think your school should have at least 1 computer that has a licensed copy of M$ Office on it.

Will PowerPoint group the movies together, or doesn't it work with only slides? Guyfin, are you wanting to make a VCD for use in a set top player, or are you shooting for just computer users?

I was talking to my teacher, and we have two options.
1. We could either make this something like a VCD.
2. We could find a program for the cd that allows the user to interact with it. Such as, having a main interface, then clicking on options that lead to different sections, such as sports section, music section, senior page section, etc.

We would prefer to have the second option, an interaction with the program on a computer. If we can not work it out with either options, we would then go with the power point viewer. Our school does have powerpoint, but we don't really want the viewers to control the movements of frames and such. We are also planning to have music run with some videos and slide shows, so I doubt we could do that through powerpoint.

I think Hyperstudio is a pretty common program your school might have which would allow users to navigate, but I'm thinking it works with still frames only. Check it out tho. It may allow you to link to a movie file.
