Backup utility for CD-F or DVD
Is there such a thing as a backup utility that will write to a cd burner or dvd burner?

Ron the best program I have found so far for this is True Image. Not only will it do an image from withing Windows of the active drive, it also does incremental backups, can be set to do them at certain times and dates, will set up new drives, or clone a hard drive should you run out of space. The program also creates a secure zone on your hard drive where it can store a virus proof image in addition to the ability to burn on CD or DVD. It will also make a bootable rescue CD based on Linux so it will support NTFS partition recovery. And if that is not enough, when the advanced recovery option is activated, it adds a Start-up recovery to the boot-up for activating the program.
Really easy to use. I have used Drive Image for a number of years and this beats the heck out of that program or Ghost. This one can be called a true backup program, unlike the other two. To tell you how easy it is, I was looking for a program that a monkey could use, after a couple of people had trouble using drive image (I always spec an image program on all computers I build). When I came across this one. Website:http://www.acronis.com/products/trueimage/ Look at the user manual link on the page for more details. But buy it here for $39.99 (it is downloadable) http://www.digitalriver.com/dr/v2/Ec...CACHE_ID=93773 |

Yes, just take a look at the user manual PDF on the website. I use this program to back-up to both CD-RW and DVD+RW, but you can also use CD-R or DVD+-R.
Really great thing about the program is that if you can backup to only one DVD+RW you can just set the program to do an incremental backup at a certain date and time, then it will do it in the background. It is the only one of these programs that can backup the C drive while in Windows while certain files are in use. Last edited by morriswindgate; 03-02-2004 at 10:03 PM. |

After you get it an use it, don't forget to post here about how great a program it is. Compared to Ghost and DI it is light years ahead. By the way it will also work with Linux machines.
