Sfc

i had a few odd niggles with windows ME, so i thought i'd do an install 'over the top' of my current install, as there is no repair in ME..

anyway i tried that and it messed up in the middle, i guess the cd was scratched or something? .. that left me in a worse state than i was.. the computer still works but several of the windows utilities dont etc..

i dont want to (risk) reinstalling the whole OS..
anyway i read about SFC in some other post.. does this check all your system files, or just ones u select?

if it checks all the files, then it sounds like it would be a v. good for me...

but i tried going to run>sfc and it didn't work and i do not have any sfc.exe nor is there one on the ME cd.. i have a sfc.dll somewhere thou...

or is SFC just the thing where u press 'extract file..' under MSconfiG ?.

(the ME cd seems to work fully just the install messed up.. the files all seem to be ok so i could extract them etc..)

ME don't have SFC, MS left it out and it was one of the gripes about ME so MS put SFC back in with the release of XP.

Try one of those CD cleaners to get the scratchs out.
