Cool Adobe's Graphical Programs

This is a simple question:

Is there a big enough difference between Adobe Photoshop CS and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 to merit its 600 USD difference? I'm not in the graphics industry or anything, in saying I'm not very demanding, but I do generally come upon people who want me to design websites, where many functions are utilized.

Thanks,
kram

I don't own CS yet, but it's the standard in graphics programs from what I understand. Elements seems to be for the average user touching up photos and such. It contains the main elements used in doing those major functions, but the full version has every bell and whistle imaginable. Depends on how serious you are, I guess.

Take a look at Paint Shop Pro - it's almost as capable as the full Photoshop at a fraction of the cost. You can download a free trial.

Kram,

In all fairness, without knowing more about the nature of your work and your skill level, your question is not really that simple.

I started out with PE 1.0 and graduated to PE 2.0 when it was released. Eventually I outgrew PE 2.0. After I bought a digital SLR that shoots in RAW mode, that clinched it. Rather than buy PS 7.0, I waited for PS CS so I could get the raw plugiin along with other new features that I can use.

It's really a matter of can PE 2.0 do all you want it to. You might go a bookstore and peruse some of the "hot to" books on PS CS and see if any of the features might be of us. If any of those features might make your ceative life easier the I would consider "graduating" up.

Hope this helps.

I'd agree with bailey - you get what you pay for. We use it in the studio for all our graphics - we thought about other programs (Paint Shop Pro, Canvas, Fireworks) but for our needs, nothing compares to Photoshop in terms of color correction, true NTSC colors not to mention compatability with Premiere Pro. It is a professional tool and as such, there is quite a bit to learn. I'd say we utilize about 60% of the program right now. We know we could get more out of it, but we just need the time to learn all the aspects of the program.

Is it worth the $600???...it was to us.

Dave.

Can you name some major componenets that the Photoshop boasts that Elements doesn't?

In answer to davewill's question, I use Photoshop for web designing, not that frequently, but more as a minor hobby. I'm thinking that Photoshop CS would be the best for the job, but will the Elements be sufficient?

Thanks,
kram
