Problems with Partition Commander

I'm trying to use PC to partition my 120 GB hard drive. Several attempts have the same result. Something interrupts the operation. By interrupt, I mean an "hourglass" icon appears indicating that the software is working but the mouse will not move and the harddrive LED shows no activity. Nothing happens over many hours. Long after the process should have completed I am forced to power down my PC and then power up. Since I don't have a floppy drive, Partition Commander cannot restart and I have to restore my entire system from backup.

So far customer support has not been very helpful. "Your system is custom built, oh."

The only consolation is that I have gotten good practice at backing up and restoring. I have made several attempts using different variations of running PC. I will make one more call to customer support to demand either an answer or a refund.

Has anyone had any experience with Partition Commander.

Any hints or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

What OS are you using? You could probably use native tools to partition with.

If you are trying to resize existing partitions with no data loss, you do need something like Partition Commander or Partition Magic. However, if you are just trying to partition unallocated space or delete existing partitions (except for the active OS partition) and recreate partitions, you can do that in XP's Disk Management. If this is a fresh install, XP will set up the first partition as part of the Setup and you simply have to use Disk Management to finish the job after the install is complete.
