XviD has nothing to do with sound, it's a video codec.
From the XviD FAQ.

Did you try to open it in windows media player and see if it downloads the proper audio codec?

Get GSpot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/download.html
Load the avi. It will tell you what audio and video codec you need.
