Thumbs down Norton Internet Security

HI

This is a bit of a follow-up to a post I laid down earlier, so sorry if it's in the wrong place....

My mate bought Norton internet security 2004.

I chucked it on his Win 98 pc. 127RAM/decent processor/large hdd.

BUT!

We seem to have to keep updating the live update AND... while we know broadband has been connected, there is no more internet explorer! I mean the browser is there, but we get that nasty white page saying it couldn't connect etc, you know the one...

So is this the firewall giving us the problem?

I don't remember seeing any firewall configuration data.

Worse still, when I try to change any settings in Norton, it says I don't have the admin rights (or words to that effect).

help, help HELP! HELP!arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

If I uninstall the product, will it be useful to anyone else now we have 'activated' it? (Activate? You're kidding? It couldn't be more inactive!).

(please help)

Personaly, id just not use NIS. While many people like NAV (not me though) the firewall isint the best, it just annoys you and lags up the computer. I had NIS 2003 and it was just a horrible experiance, worst thing is, they wont let you just install the AV, you need the firewall. Although if you want to keep NIS, sorry I cant help you there. (have you checked to see it the firewall lets IE connect to the net?)

NIS------------------------------>TRASH CAN

sygate or zone alarm------>your computer

Keep in mind this is my OPINION and other people might say it is good and/or have a fix for it.

I have NIS security 2004 and System works 2003 and have no problems.

To change the firewall settings right click on the globe like icon in your system tray next to the clock. Click on norton internet securty. Then when the program comes up click on Personal Firewall. On the right you will have the options to configure it or disable it.

I have found it very easy to use and it hasn't slowed down my computer at all. I don't know why I'm the only person with no problems.

I run the built in hardware firewall in my router then the downloadable version of zonealarm on each machine in my network. Works fine for me.
