as an isp, i dislike aol. it's slow, and it's so hard to work with if you're trying to do anykind of networking.

i do, however, like aim. so i couldn't vote that i absolutely do not like aol.

AOL is a Gateway where you have to go to their site first. Here you get to see advertisments that was downloaded using the bandwidth you paid for. If anybody else put ads on your computer you would be complaining about having Spyware!
AOL charges more for all of their services than each one from someone else.
AOL software is junk and is known to cause problems that can crash a computer. They have had a class action suit filed on them because of this.
AOL Mail is the biggest security hole on the internet since the buddy list feature lends itself to the spread of virus/trojans.
AOL makes a great gift to give to someone you do not like.

Although it's the largest ISP in the world, AOL is the Internet on training wheels. They are the largest not because of quality or value, it's all marketing, ease of installation and use for clueless newbies, and chat rooms. Last time I flew on American Airlines, I was served an AOL CD with my lunch.

1) AOL is bad
2) AOL is bad
3) AOL is bad
4) Rinse, repeat 1-3 if desired.

Seriously, For beginners who have plopped themselves onto the WWW for the first time, I suppose it's one of the ways to go. As for general use, it is quite hampering, not to mention annoying with all of the software you have to use and deal with.

I do like AIM, but considering that you can use that without having AOL, I don't see the need to use AOL.

I think he's referring to the previous post on the matter, DragonNOA1.

I use AIM and love it, but wouldn't touch AOL with a 100 feet pole.

AOL is a scam. I've had many problems with them and they are very sneaky and rude. Too late for me to vent.

My top 2 ISP's would be Netzero and SBC yahoo. When I had dialup with Netzero I always had a fast connection usualy 49k. Yahoo's dialup is also good but there DSL service is even better, its rarely down and you get free dialup to use when your not at home.

I don't think AOL is horrible. It has it's place and many people use it. I'm using it to type this (doing a DSL switch). I think you have to realize that there are MANY people that don't live and mess with computers. They want something simple and easy to use.

Now, do I want it as my ISP? No. But I share an account with someone that doesn't have a credit card.

Juno and Netzero are owned by the same people I beleive. They have the same logo except for the color. And the dialup software is the same, except for color.

Yes juno and netzero are owned by the same people and around here a lot of us like Juno also....The service is good and we joined juno a few years ago for a price of $4.95 a mo. and still only pay that....A good price for their service....Now it cost $9.95 but we still pay the lower price...Can't beat it

your post didn't make a whole lot of sense, but i am guessing for $45/month you aren't going to set something better than a T1.

I can't understand him either, but I think he means Optimum Online, that's a cable provider in the NYC area, it's 6mb down, 1mb up, and is now $60 a month for new accounts.

Earthlink covers all bases and is available everywhere, they have dialup, DSL, cable, and satellite.
