Pissed Windows Media player - can't hear anything!

Hi, I have just installed Windows Media player 7.1 (win98 OS) and i can't even hear the opening (Intoduction) I can't hear anything!

Any ideas what this might be.. I did try to win media player 9 sometime ago - even though It was / is for win98SE (which I thought i had) So, seeing as there wasn't any sound from that player, I deicided to uninstall windows media 9 and reinstall 7.1!

I can hear sounds fro winamp and my CD player, even play my CD player thru Win Media player, but it doesn't seem to want to play from the internet!

Suggestions / recommendations PLEASE?

thks

Did you check your speaker configuration and mute settings in your sound panel? Can you hear anything thru headphones plugged into the apporpriate jack? If so, you may have a bad speaker connection.
