I have 4 *.dll files in my data partition.

Where did these files come from?

mfc71u.dll
mfc71.dll
msvcp71.dll
msvcr71.dll

I went googling and I found this:
http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthre...hreadid=155374

They answer what the files are for but I don't understand how they got in my backup/data partition?

Can you guys help?

Recently I just installed and played the FarCry reasearch demo. Could that be it?

BTW I search my c:\ drive for these files and came up only to find msvcr71.dll in:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo
C:\WINDOWS\system32\URTTemp
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Crytek\Far Cry Demo 2
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322

Microsoft implementation of the C and C++ libraries and MFC, nothing wrong with them, almost every single app needs those files.

Thank you for the response. I would really like to know WHY these files are in my DATA (my drive f:\) partition because it's the first time I have seen these files.

hmm, are they in the root directory (f:\*.dll)?

Do you have anything installed in f: ?

It's normal to have them in c:\windows\ and in program directories (like the ones you listed in your second post).

No. Just data (save games backups, steam installer, ghost image of c: drive, etc.. usual backup data)

Exactly! I find it very strange for dll files to just show-up all of a sudden. And they're not hidden/system files.

HAHA just as I suspected!

I uninstalled the Far Cry research Demo and the 4 dll files were gone.

At least I know where they came from. Now to figure out WHY. I going to search the farcry forums.
