how to ghost a drive?
I have a old windows 95 PC I dont use and a old ME. The ME wont boot caus it has a curropted OS. I want to copy the old 95 to the ME box, how could I do this? Would it work with the different hardware? I dont know if the old 95 uses a ATX power supply, if it doesnt would the HDD still work in a ATX machine. I have norton ghost but have never used it.

You can just install the 95 hard drive in the other box, boot it to safe mode, and remove the ENUM key. IDE hard drives are IDE drives, the power supply style has nothing to do with it. Just be mindful of proper cabling and jumpering.
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?&threadid=9254 Why don't you just wipe the ME hard drive and reinstall a fresh OS on it? |

The HD is too big to fit in the drive bays? That doesn't sound right. Are you saying that there aren't any drive bays free? Why can't you take out the HD with ME on it and put the 95 drive in?

Its a old computer, the HDD is huge(with surprisingly small storage
) Also the old 95 looks wierd, it had like 4 big boards connected to the mobo. Anyways, I can just connect the 95 HDD in the ME box to ghost it and take it out. Which brings back the question...how do I use ghost???EDIT:found a little problem, ghost needs IE5+, the 95 only has IE2. But I heard that it also works in DOS, how do I do that? You need to use the Ghost program to make a floppy. It should be an option in there somewhere. What version of Ghost are you using?

I looked on the Cd and all they give is the DOS version that fits on a floppy. The thing is confusing though, I have no idea how to use it. There was a disabled button called peer to peer. If I put the other HDD in will that button be enabled? Do I use that to copy HDD to HDD?

I would place you a small wager that the harddrive you are talking about is NOT an IDE drive. Sounds like a 5.25 mfm, rll, or scsi drive. I don't know of any ide harddrives made in the last 10 years that have not been a 3.5 form factor
Edit: Sorry I dreged up this old thread. I was catching up and did not notice the last post date. Now I can't delete it.
