Question help! msvcrt.dll ???

When i go to start some programs (only a few so far, Lexmark and Fireworks MX) i get an error message. The heading is, "Entry Point Not Found" and the body says, "The procedure entry point_init could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll". This is the first time i've seen this. Im runnign Windows XP. The only thing i can think of doing recently is changing the look of my pc around. (background, windows blinds, start up screen, log on screen) other than that i can't think of anything i've done to make it do this. help?
