Unhappy I just want to watch Donnie Darko.....!

Hey'all,

Cleopatra, my new build is working luverly (see sig).

Unti, that is, I went to play a DVD. In both Win Media and the Software DVD player, I just get the "blah has enountered a problem and needs to close". I've searched the forums and Googled it, but to no avail. The only thing of note that I've read is someone suggesting that it is nothing to do with the DVD software, but is a problem within XP itself...?

The other oddity is that under the technical details in the error message, the system is listed as Windows NT 5.1 build 2600... I'm running XP, so isn't this, umm.. wrong? Or is this how XP refers to itself or something.

My new machine isn't connected to the net (and won't be until I move house and get broadband)

Any help would be much appreciated.

CoraX.

5.1 build 2600 is in fact XP.

Do you have SP1 and all the updates? DMA enabled? What DVD software is installed?

Cheers for the reply glc,

In desperation, I re-installed PowerDVD again, and now it works...

??????

WinDVD and Windows Media still won't play though, but I don't suppose that really matters.

Donnie Darko was very good by the way, I've been wanting to see it for ages!

Ta,

CoraX

PowerDVD has been the most consistent player for my customers - never tried Windows Media, but have had issues with WinDVD and ATI's player.
