Well I upgraded my Asus P4P800 BIOS last month, I had no problems in getting the LiveUpdate and BIOS file.
I don't think it is quicker when flashing the bios from Windows as the same amount of data has to be written.
I use the LiveUpate because I don't have a floppy drive so it's the only way for me to do it.

is 1016(?) the newest p4p800 BIOS? I am at work right now, can't remember if that's the one I got or not. Also, I couldn't get the liveupdate to work, corrupted my BIOS (thank god for crashfree!) I had to floppy it.

Yep 1016 is the newest. I have 1015, though, 1016 appeared later.
Crashfree BIOS ? Interesting. . seems I gotta take a closer look into the manual to see what interesting features that board has.

According to Asus (paraphrased, don't have the manual here at work) it automatically recovers from a corrupted or crashed BIOS, restoring system settings to what they were "out of the box," I assume. It worked, after the error on flashing mine, I got the "overclocking failed" message, then it reset itself.

Do it with floppies, it's a lot safer anyway.
