i was over at a clients house today and they are getting a lot of spam through a local dial-up company's email address. so i was wondering about any spam blockers you guys could recommend for Outlook Express. i did some searching, and the ones i was seeing looked a bit too complicated for them to maintain. so, i am looking for a VERY simple spam blocker program. imagine this is going to your grandma, and she has never used a computer before, and because you don't live nearby, you need a spam blocker that she can figure out
thanks craig

Cancel the local dialup and get Earthlink (if they have a local access number), they have server side spam (through Brightmail) and virus filtering. It catches 90% of my spam and all my viruses. It's all configurable through the webmail interface (levels and reporting options) so YOU can take care of it for them. If you do this, don't install their software or the "accelerator", it's all just fluff and you can install the Google toolbar to block popups. You don't have to install the software to open an account, it can all be done at the website. It's so good I have switched my domain e-mail over from a standard POP account to a forwarding alias to my Earthlink POP account.

alright, they live way out in the boonies, so i will see if earthlink serves out there. what does earthlink go for these days? they are paying $5/month with the current service, so i don't know how much they are going to want to pay extra. thanks for the info, and it will definitely be something to look at if i am able to take care of it for them instead of them

$21.95 a month. You get what you pay for - a $5 ISP isn't going to have any filtering.
If you have to stick with what you have, your best option is Mailwasher and a good antivirus that has real time email scanning - and some training. |
