mozilla

what do you guys think about mozilla and using it instead of IE?

From what Ive read it is supposed to be more secure than IE which is attractive.

Is it easy to install and use. Does is involve uninstalling IE?

Thanks

I use it mainly because of the mail filter, pop-up stopper, and tabbed browsing.

You don't have to uninstall IE And use Firefox, not mozzila.... When I used IE one day since mozzila wasn't working, it went 10x faster, so I switched back

But then I tried firefox, and it was about the same speed as IE, wasn't M$ and had better features, and thats what I'm using now

No need to worry bout IE, just install Moz (firefox is what I use) and give it a shot, heck you might not go back to IE except to get critical updates for it and Windows.

I have been using various incarnations of Mozilla for a couple of years now. I would never go back to using IE. In all that time, I have never had to deal with spyware toolbars, or hijacked homepages, or malicious ActiveX controls, or anything of that sort. Firefox is very fast, blocks popups (over 1,000 blocked so far), and comes with a lot of extensions that allow you to do cool things, like save browser sessions and navigate simply by moving the mouse. The only sites I use IE for are the sites that are unfortunately coded not to work with Mozilla.

Definitely give it a shot. I've been using FireFox for quite awhile and love it. The only time IE gets used on this machine is for Windows Update.

Ive tryed it side to side with IE6 and IE is faster. Got google tool bar to stop pop-ups, Spybot to lock my host file, immunize agains spyware and block bad activeX. The only thing I dont like is the no tabed browsing. When I get up to 6 windows it all goes in one space at the bottom of the screen and is very annoying. I like opera better but it is very slow although many people say its faster, IE loads pages like 3-4x faster.

Use Firefox - it's being more actively developed than IE. It's also got great features that have been mentioned: popup blocking, tab browsing, and other things. But the best part is that it is standards-compliant meaning it shows pages the way the designer wanted you to see it (that is, if the designer knows anything about designing for the web and standards, which most good designers do). If you use it, I can almost guarantee you won't go back.

you dont need to uninstall ie

mozilla is fast, has skins, best of all tabs-i only wish that it had a favorites tab thing like ie...it has bookmarks, but i like the favs of ie better.. but most other browsers are doing that now..i.e opera

What do you mean by favorites tab? You can add favorites and folders the the toolbar by placing them in the "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder," if that's what you meant.

Smile well, im a n00b with it so be easy on me

what i mean is it doesnt come onto the screen to the left, or does it? im not really sure about all of its capabilities yet...if you could fill me in that would be great.

Also, i know this has an easy answer but i cant seem to figure it out..when i click a link, how do i get it to come up as a tab in the same window, but not come up?

It keeps coming up in a new window(with tabs)

Also, when i first open it, some kind of error comes up, i hit ok, and it opens fine

TIA

How are you 'clicking' the link? I just click with the middle button (mouse wheel) and it opens in a background tab in the current window.

I'm still a little confused about what you meant by favorites.

I don't know if Firefox is the same because I'm still using Firebird, but in FB you go to View>Sidebar>Bookmarks to get the bookmarks on the left side of your screen.

As for bringing stuff up in a tab you just use the center scroll button on your mouse to click on the link instead of the left mouse button as usual.

I think this is what you are looking for see image attachment.
To add the Bookmarks to look like Favorites in IE, right click on the navigation toolbar then to properties and drag the bookmarks icon to the navigation toolbar and bingo you have bookmarks like the favs in IE.

I used Firefox, Opera, and Mozilla at one time or another. I ended up going back to IE after a while. The other browsers seemed to get worse over time. I started having stability problems and they were becoming very slow. I use IE now and with the Google toolbar I get no pop-ups. Plus IE Spell installed for spell checking my posts. Easy Go Back gives me my mouse gestures. The links bar is also a feature that I never noticed before. The only thing I miss is the tabbed browsing but it's not a big deal because I don't keep that many windows open at a time. TweakUI lets me change how many windows I can have open before they are grouped in the taskbar. Life is good. IE ended up being better for me even after I swore never to go back to it when I first switched to Opera. HERE is what my IE browser looks like now.

yea, opera was just too much for me-too complex, didnt feel like learning everything it had. Mozilla seems to be cool, but I know what your talking about with the speed of the browser, opera was AMAZINGLY fast when I first got it, then became slow.

I like the simplicity of IE, but dont know if I could live without tabs ...if Modzilla gets on my nerves Ill try that program you mentioned.

Spell checking is key though, im the worst speller, as you can probably read

I believe the next version of IE will have tabs. That will be nice. IE Spell works well but it isn't the best speller either. I usually end up adding more words to it's dictionary than I make changes. Such as Google, IE, Microsoft, etc. None of those things were in its dictionary.

I think there is something better already. I'll never go back to using IE as my main browser I mean life is far too short to spend my time fixing the problems it brings about.

You guys want tabbed browsing with IE right now?

Try MyIE2 from www.myie2.com.
It's an IE shell with tabs, a built-in pop-up stopper, skins and a lot of other goodies built in.

As a bonus, it's free.

I have never used IE as my main browser, and never intend to. Even IE6 is a clunky dinosaur today, compared to the latest and greatest from Mozilla and Opera - in my opinion. I also don't have to deal with ActiveX shoveling spyware and worms to me in bulk, and what are popups?

What I like mozila for it is showing every HTML element in real time as it downloads, It is pretty smart especially for slow connection sites.
