Go!zilla DL Manager and Spyware......?
I've used 6-7 different DL Managers and none of them have worked (long-term) better than Gozilla.
The Free-Demo version knowingly comes with GAIN Ad-ware. The Seller claims that the GAIN Ad-ware is NOT in the paid version. Does anyone KNOW if that is correct? Copy and paste from their FAQ: I've heard rumors about privacy concerns with ad-sponsored software. What can you tell me about that? Please see http://www.digitalcandle.com/privacy/falserumors.html or http://www.gozilla.com/privacy.html for more info into these false rumors of privacy violations and data collection. Included are third party investigations by respected authorities such as Network Associates which call the rumors just another internet hoax. Also included is a utility to remove the advertising system from your computer. However this will make the free, sponsored version of Go!Zilla non-functional. Gozilla FAQ #20 I would REALLY like to buy this software, but Im going to be PISSED if I pay for it and it has Spyware, adware or anything of the sort. ANYbody here use the paid version themselves? Can u verify that its adware free? Thanx! |

Mozilla and Opera just happen to have excellent download managers built in - just a thought.

Mozilla's download manager doesn't handle interrupted downloads though, and can't throtltle download bandwidth.
I use Download Mage at the moment, it's also integrated with browser-clicks, and works fine with Mozilla. However, I have to agree that Gozilla is just about the best DM I've seen. I don't use it any more, as it started causing lockup problems. It IS possible to stop it 'phoning home, with appropriate website names in your HOSTS file though, and this stops the ads refreshing too. Can't remember what they were, and they might have changed by now even if I could find the list. I can't imagine the vendor would claim the licensed version was ad-free when it wasn't. Newsgroups and computer news pages would be awash with criticism within days. |
