faster browsers?

You might have seen me post this in other threads but i would like to see other peoples reponce to this. I see many people say that opera, mozilla and firefox are faster than IE but after testing them I found this is far from true. No offence to those who use this browser but opera was just sad in speed next to IE. Then I tried mozilla and firefox which are almost identical. On very few pages they do load faster but most of the time IE is done loading and mozilla is still blank. I understand people using it for security and extre features but as for speed they cant match IE.

I use other browsers at times,I just like to keep up on how all the different browsers, but my main preference is I.E. as it was my first experience and felt the most comfortable with it earlier in my computing experience.

I think you found IE faster because it's already cached images and such stuff.

Either clear IE's cache, or use the other browsers for a while.

Ditto to aym. I choose it because it has features that IE doesn't and won't for awile(without plug-ins and similar things).
*Looks at the 15 tabs currently open, then at his empty task bar* Good ol' Firefox...

I also notice no difference between IE and Mozilla.

I too experienced Mozilla slower than IE. One of my friends uses Mozilla for quite some time, and the last time I was at his PC I wanted to go to ebay and it took forever. Actually I got impatiend and just closed Mozilla before the site was loaded. Opened IE and it went as fast as it used to be (I always use IE so I know how fast it is, also I regularly clean my cache).

What is tabbed browsing anyway ? Is it the MDI structure or something else ?

Lets you have multiple pages in one window, you have little tabs under the adress bar to go from one page to the other.

If you disable Java in Opera and buy it to get rid of the ad banner, it turns into a screamer.

Curious. I use IE 6.0 and at times I have two or three running. I can switch between pages on the taskbar. How is "tabbed browsing" different from this in use?

The browser window has tabs, there is only one instance running on the taskbar. The more instances you have running on the taskbar, the more resources IE is eating up.

I'm not having a problem with resources, either. I rarely bother to open two web pages at once but if I need to I just open a second IE and put it on the other monitor. I was just curious since tabbed browsers seem to be the rage.

For me Firebird is faster then IE but only with broadband, with dial up I found it the same but Opera on the other had I dont see how you dont see the difference.

When I was on Dial up and even now on broadband I find it much faster then any other browser that I have used.

Mozilla isn't just about speed anyway (although I find it faster), tabbed browsing, popup blocking, no spyware/hijacking/ActiveX crap, JavaScript control, spam filter, ad blocking...

True, that's why I use it to browse most pages. I only use IE for pages that I know have no pop-ups or that don't display well in Mozilla.

I am really not concerned about speed, as long as it's not like the auld days of dial-up, I am fine.

Something weird happened the other day tho: I always use Mozilla to do my banking, and when I tried to order a check book it started the Java VM, then hanged! First it was slow as molasses, then completely hanged. I open the site with IE and everything was fast and painless. I was taken aback as it's always IE which gives me more trouble with the JVM.

Sorry, was a victim of site's slow speed. (And in this precise thread, ironic, isn't it?)

Hi ghost2003 nice to met you!
Yes a agreed with above posts, best way is to use multiple browsers because every browser has its own unique features. But this is of course surfing guru. For regular user I will advice MSIE.
