Office 2000 Problems
I've got a laptop that has Office 2000 on it and everything has been working just fine, until lately. Suddenly it's not installed anymore and keeps asking me for the install disc, which I do not have as I got this laptop without any discs. Any ideas on how I can restore this without the disc?

I haven't checked for viruses lately though I suppose that could be the cause. I'm running Win2k Pro. I also haven't done a system restore. I don't believe this software initially came on the computer so I don't know if that would help, but I'm not knowledgeable in the realm of restoration, so I could be wrong.

Look for a second hard drive on the my computer section. You may need to make 'hidden files' visible to see it. Hopefully you have this restore partition, tell us what the computer make and model is and we can help with the restore process.
Restoring would take the laptop back to 'fresh out of the original shipping box' shape. All software and saved files since then would be lost unless you copy them to CD etc. first. If office was part of the laptop to start then it would be on the restore partition also. If this partition was deleted then we have a problem. If there never (ie when brand new) was a hidden partition with the restore then you must have the install disks. Now, if the there was a deleted restore partition there is not much you can do without sending the laptop back to the manufacturer. I do not know what this will cost or entail. If the purchase was 'with the software' then you should have the install disks or the restore partition. Of not then you and the seller are in violation of the eula of both the operating system and the office product. If this was a second hand laptop then I hate to say it but you may be in the position where you will end up buying a new copy of office and maybe the OS too. If you are in the US have a look at newegg oem copies for both, still a major hit to the pocket book but not as bad as it could be if you bought retail. The cost for the two could be about 500 total for a oem professional office and the oem OS. A little less if you do not need the professional version of office.

I'm pretty certain I don't have a restore partition. This would suck if this doesn't work out...I use Excel and Access somewhat often...

Access pushes you into the professional version.
What is the laptop make and model? and how did you buy it? |

It's an older IBM Pentium II 366. I don't know what model it is (I'm at work and laptop is at home). I'm certain Office 2000 (professional) didn't come packaged with it as I believe that came out after this laptop was initially purchased. A friend of mine is a networking admin for HP and upgraded and had no use for this laptop and gave it to me.

It's not possible to restore Office 2000 without the original install media.
