Ghost and repartitioning
Alright, here's what I want to do:
My hard drive is partitioned into multiple partitions, but I would like to combine the two into one partition. Is there any way I can do this with Ghost by backing up my computer, reinstalling Windows XP and then using Ghost somehow I would restore all my date. Is this possible at all? |

I don't think Norton Ghost does that but there is a program called Partition Magic that does....

Yeah, I know of Partition Magic. It wasn't really having Ghost repartition, it's if I could backup up the data from 2 partitions and restore it as one partition.

I still don't think NG is capable of that, but certainly Partition Magic can just combine the 2 partitions on the current drive and make it one. If what you are wanting to do is just for backup purposes using NG, then I think you'll also have to partition that backup drive into 2 partitions also..As I read your original post closer anyways, and I gather what you want to do is just save your data you don't want to loose so you can reinstall Windows on your main harddrive, Norton Ghost is not what you want anyways cause it backs up the entire drive or image and you don't really want that. Since you will be reinstaling windows on that drive you really just want to backup your files you want to keep, like docs, and pictures and such, and after reinstalling windows, then reinstall your programs, then restore your files you backed up. You can just slave that backup drive to your existing C: drive and copy all the files you need to that backup drive, and you'll have them all saved on there..If you use NG, then after reinstalling windows and you than ghost the backup drive back over to the maindrive, then you'll just be right back exactly where you started with the same windows install that you started with...

Hm. Okay. I think what I'll do is completely backup my system to an ghost image file, and then I'll reinstall windows and pick out the files I want back from the image file.
