Is there a solution for this problem? I understand there is no way to remove Windows messenger, but this issue keeps cropping up.

You can remove windows messenger, its is probly better to do it if you dont use it. Just go in add/remove windows components and remove it.

If you are talking about windows messenger in XP, the add/remove windows components actually only removes access to messenger from the start menu, it wont uninstall it.

I was thinking that you could disable windows messenger in the services though.

Start > Run > msconfig > Services > Messenger (disable it). Also disable 'msmsgs' in the Startup tab.
