Why AIM?

Most people on this forum say that AOL is the worst thing that was ever created but it seems like AIM is the most popular chat. Why is that?

No one I know uses AIM... but it may just be a feature or something... or the fact that so many people are on AOL, no matter how bad it is...

I think a lot of people are just using the aim instant messenger and the e-mail, not any of the other AOL junk

All my firends use MSN Messenger. I would never let AOL anything come within 100 feet of my PC. I prefer MSN to any of the other IM programs. The pop-up email notifications are very convinient.

I use MSN messanger. I have a buddy who live in Virginia for awhile. He says that it seems like almost everybody over there uses AIM, but over here (west side), everybody uses MSN Messanger.

i use trillian, it lets you use IRC, ICQ, AIM, MSN, and Y! all at the same time. you can also be online with as many screen names as you want at any given time. its pretty cool.

Same with TinCanary. I bought Trillian 2.0 Pro and have it on my computer. It lets your do AIM and MSN, though I commonly use AIM. I would think the reason is from AOL software "easy to use, no wonder its number one ". Then, AIM started to get popular.

Also, Trillian lets you add stuff, like popup notification on AIM and MSN and Y!, as well as stuff like local news, weather, etc. It's really nice, though slightly resource comsuming.

Hope that helps,
kram

I'm an Aussie, but I get the AOL ads too, but no-one over here really uses it (thank God)
I have MSN, but it's really aggravating as it really doesn't like working on LAN's, so many of us in my accommodation get error messages relating to the connections. Trillan is pretty cool, though when it first came out it was a pain in the rear

I have a network and I have no problem with MSN Messenger. When I sign in on another computer it signs me out on another but I'm only using one at a time and no one else is signing in as me.
