Help please with Dell Dimension/ WIN98
Trying to find out how to do a non destructive System Restore on my mother in laws Dell Dimension L466c with an Intel Celeron Processor running Windows 98. I know on my HP's, at start up hitting F10 gives you the option. Anyone know?
Thanks, John |

Windows 98 doesn't have system restore like Windows XP.

Dells come with Restore/Recovery CDs...some just labeled "Operating System." The one that came with my Dimension running 98 is labeled "Dell Product Recovery."
Boot the computer with that CD in the CD drive (you might have to go into the BIOS to put the CD drive first in the boot order). One of the options the CD gives you is a "repair" installation. |

the only problem with useing the recover cd's is that it will put the computer in the same condition that it was in when first purchased, and you will loose everything you had in it.
so if possible back-up everything you may need or want to keep. |

bailey,
Is that the only option on the recovery cd? Is there not a " Non Destructive " recovery? If not, she's just gonna have to live with it. Thanks. |

there is no repaire option, the recover cd only will clean off the hard drive and put the system back to the day it was purchased. removeing everything else the was added from that time will be gone.

Not necessarily - some restore cd's do give you a nondestructive option.
What's going on that makes you think you need to do this? It may be just a simple repair. |
