win98 autoexe line on win2k system possible?
I'd like to know if and how i can place a line from a win98se autoexe.bat to a windows2000 system. I am trying to do this for an program that my parents used until recently in their medical office, and they want to keep it as backup and for old dossiers (custom written software in clipper years ago) . It is a program that actually runs in dos mode. it uses wordperfect 5.1 for the text editing part. I managed to get it working on a second win98 pc by copying the 2 folders of the program, the wp51 folder and a c:/otz folder. then i copied the autoexe.bat lines to the second pc.
The autoexe.bat lines i am referring to are set clipper=f99 set path="%path"%;wp51 subst a: c:/otz (the 2 first lines are not exact, its something like that) I know the last line was needed for when my mother typed at home, she saved all on a JAZZ drive and when she went to the office the next day it synchronized with the server.

Control panel, system, advanced, environment variables.
I'd add them as current user variables, but I don't think you can use subst. |

Thanks very much for the help . I dont think the subst a: c:/otz is that important. the server itself to synchronize with doesnt "exist" anymore (has become one of the client pc's now) . so this might very well work.
if the wp 5.1 path and the clipper line are booted, it should be enough to read the files in the database, and that is what they need it for. The man that wrote and did tech support with the old software was a problem, when he was called for something urgent like a problems with bills for patients or so , he didnt show up for several weeks. So transferring the data to the new program will take a while, if they manage to do it at all. |
