Newt

I just installed NEWT from the PCmech newsletter. I just ran the scan and almost everything says no privileges. What does this mean?

You probably need to log in as administrator.

Just match up the administrator password and workgroup on all of them. Note that Newt only works with NT/2K/XP Pro.

I went to the NEWT forums and they said I need to have the same username and password on all the machines. I don't want to do that. Is there another program that I can use to view network info for the computers?

the adminstrator username and passwork would be the same on every computer on the network if you were the adminstrator of the network, users should not have acessae to the adminstrator account.

at least thats the way I see it

All the computer accept for one are mine, so I only made 1 account on each of them and set it up with administrative rights. Never saw a real need for a seperate admin account.

The NEWT program needs all the computers to be logged in with the same username and password, they don't need to be admin. I would go and make new accounts on all of them but I just got all the settings on them just the way I want.

yes a lot of home networks are used that way, but doing that is like disablileing any security features you paid for by useing xp with ntfs

you do not normally want to allow a user on a network to change things, install things, and mess with the settings.
that stuff should be left to the adminstrator only.

All your NT/2K/XP Pro boxes have a default administrator account in addition to whatever user accounts you have added. Make the ADMINISTRATOR passwords all the same, and log each box in to the administrator account, then you can run Newt.
