Can't get rid of redirected search page

Hi there,

I have this search page which pops up when pages are being redirected automatically. It's very annoying cause for example downloads will not startup because the adress is redirected to this adress: http://www.best-search.info/ or http://www.smart-fnder.biz.

I just reinstalled everything for a week or so, so I'm not very keen on doing that again only for this irritating website. I tried some removal tips but I don't seem to succeed cause the website keeps popping up (in the same window by the way, it's not popping up in another window).

Can somebody help me with this? It says to have an uninstaller but also in that case I'm redirected to their index page and the funny thing is that a little help text says:

"Download uninstaller, run, reboot your computer and relax."

Aaarrcchhh, I don't call this relaxed.
Hope somebody can ginve me a tip on getting rid of this annoying website. Thanks,

PiC

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
Have you run Adaware and Spybot yet? Try that first.

I'm now directed to another page by the way :S http://searchpage.cc/

I tried CWShredder resulting in a redirect to http:///
It's still trying to redirect but it doesn't seem to be able to find the site or something. What should I do now?

I've tried the following, but I'm a bit puzzled at step 4

I figured out step 4 and also installed Java from the Sun website. But I still have the problem I'm being redirected to http:/// (just a blanc page).

Can't figure out how to get rid of this. Somebody does?

I got this problem on a system that was only a couple of days old so I used system restore to go back to the previous day which I knew was before I picked up the hijacker. This was after trying ad-aware and spybot unsuccessfully (they would fix it for a whil, but it would always come back.) It worked, but in a well established system with lots of programs and data, I'd be loathe to try it because it may have unintended consequences.

After you clean it up, try switching to an alternate browser. I use Mozilla Firefox. It's got some really neat features like a built in pop up blocker and tabbed browsing, but best of all, because it's not as integrated into the OS, you have less chance of getting hacked due to browsing. It's free as well. Mozilla also has an email client called Thunderbird. You can also get the whole suite, called Mozilla 1.7, which contains the afformentioned browser and email client as well as a chat client and a developer as well (similar to the old Netscape suite).

Thanks for the RE's. I'll post something back when I've undertaken some action.

A cool thing happened. I downloaded the latest reference file for adaware (not available last time I checked btw) and it fixed the problem.

I just hope it stays this way.

Thanx for the replies,
