Windows media player wont play some videos

Hi folks, got a really annoying prob with media player 9. Everytime i run .ASF files i get the error:

Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

When i click for more info i get:
error signature:
AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.2980 ModName: ddraw.dll
ModVer: 5.3.0.900 Offset: 00000005

I cant uninstall and reinstall because iv had the problem for so long that if i do a system restore to remove media player i will remove most of the software i have on the pc, is there any other way around this. Or do you think the problem is elsewhere?

Thanks in advance
El dude

Try the official WMP9 codecs pack: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...cdownload.aspx

Try re-encoding it into another file type. Put "convert ASF AVI" for example in Google
