If I have an ISP host with dynamic IP address and running my own domain controller and DNS, is it possible for me to setup and run a MS Exchange Server 2003 on my network? If yes, can you point me to instructions on how to do so?
Many thanks in advance! ljCharlie |

hmmm... i think the dynamic ip might kill you there. your mx records need to point somewhere, and if your ip is always changing (or potentially can change), it would be hard to pinpoint where to point. you could run it internally, but i don't think that's what you want.

Many thanks for your response. Yes, I think the dynamic ip is the big problem. However, it seemed that as long as I don't turn off my cable modem, the IP stay the same. In addition, I also heard that there are programs or services that make my IP static without paying for the business package of a static ip. Have you heard of such thing and will it work with this situation?

Oh, one more thing. I registered a domain name with Yahoo and can I use that with the Exchange server? If I can, how would I encorporate that with the exchange server?
Thank you, ljCharlie |

are you going to host your website as well as e-mail, or just handle e-mail?
i think it would be a big risk if you used dynamic ips instead of static, especially with cable. you may never turn your modem off, but for some reason your cable network could lose power or randomly reassign ip's. you'd be out of luck. |
