Optimizing performance-Speed Disk-Norton

Hello,

I use the Norton SystemWorks Pro 2003 for (among other things of course) the defragmentation of my hard disk.

Quoting from the Norton instructions :

''The Speed Disk utility (Disk Optimization sensor) monitors the level of disk fragmentation. A highly fragmented disk can impair computer performance. The sensor can alert you or automatically run Speed Disk to optimize the disk whenever fragmentation of the used disk space exceeds a critical level.''

Q. What the 'critical level' should be according to your opinion.

first of all nortons disk defragmenter sucks. I use executive software disk keeper pro. It works like a champ and i can set it and for get it. It doesnt interfear with my games with im defraging wither. Norton moves stuff to wierd places and not where its supposed to go. Plus norton is registry intrusive like no other. Runs a lot of unneeded proccesses. I only run Norton anit virus and thats jsut until my free subsctiption runs out then ill switch to AVG

Use the built in XP defrag- much more efficient than Norton, and less conflicts.

I've used Norton speed disk, diskeeper, and the built in windows defrager, plus a couple others. I like norton's the best. I don't know what the critical level is, but you could just set it to go every night at 2am or something like that. Thats what I do.
