4gb+ on a FAT32 drive?

I have got a series of winrar files, and i need to extract them, but the file exceeds 4gb, and my hard drive is FAT32.

Is there anyway for me to extract this iso file still? maybe split it into other files.

Im running XP, more details below.

Thanks

One option:

To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt
Open Command Prompt.
In the command prompt window, type

convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs

For example, typing convert D: /fs:ntfs would format drive D: with the ntfs format.

If you can fine a PC with NTFS so you can work with the rar file, just split it up into smaller pieces.

Do yourself a favor and convert to NTFS. Unless you dual boot with Win9x there is no reason for you to keep the inferior file system FST32.

So you did exactly as EzyStvy showed you ?

Are you able to get into Safe Mode ?

Usually there won't be problems, but they can happen. If it has happened to you I'd say a WinXP repair should fix it (boot from XP to install it. XP will detect existing XP and ask you to repair. Acknowledge that you want a repair)

A repair is basically an "intelligent installation over itself".
Windows XP will reinstall the necessary files but your settings and installed drivers will remain.

Why don't you have a CD ? If you don't have a CD you can't do it. You should have at least gotten a recovery CD. Or maybe you have a recovery partition (which isn't the same as repair, though, as in case of recovery you'll lose everything that was on the hard drive I believe).

well, i had a reload cd thing which is meant to do it... i put it in, told it to repair... and then it said it had changed 3 files. and told me to reboot

i did, and now it has a flashing line at the top left for a while, but then still goes black

Maybe an over the top instalation will do it. I've never done it but I'm sure someone here can tell you how.

i think i may be getting somewhere.

i used my relaod cd to repair it.
I then put my xp boot floppy disk in and booted up, now, after a whie, but still before the xp logo should appear i get this messae:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\syestem32\hal.dll
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

Anyone know what I could do now? as i really dont want to have to reformt the had drive,

thanks so much

Start your computer with the WinXP CD and boot from CD. Select "install windows" It will run a check on your system and then ask you if you want to repair or perform a format and new install. Select repair and it will repair all of your system files and leave your settings intact.

well, on the cd theres an option called 'Restore' i pressed it, and then it says that continuing will resotre it back to factory settings and erase all data and programs. press .. to continue.

if i continue will it give em an option to repair? or will it go straight into restoring to factory settings?

the onyl other options ont hec d i have is repair boot files (which didnt work)
details - which has no real improtant info
or cancel

What you have is recovery CD and those won't allow you to repair, only Restore. And it will erase everything and set it back to the way it was when it was brand new. If you can borrow an original XP cd from a friend, you can run the repair and get it working again.
