Outlook express 6 problem

I use outlook express 6 on XP office on XP o/s and have started to get problems with the keyboard when half way through writing a message in outlook.

I can start outlook ok and read messages etc - then when i get to about 5 paragraphs of typing a message the keyboard locks up and i cannot type any further! I close outlook and then if i try to open a program on the desktop i just get the shortcut properties. To open a program i have to right click and choose open that way!! I have opened word and tried to type in that and it does not let me so not sure if it is outlook express is the problem, the keyboard or what.

I have got mcafee antivirus which is updated and scanned - spybot and adaware are all up to date and checked. I did find some claria installed which i quarantined. My daughter downloaded overnet so not sure if that could cause this?
