Built a new system I want to know what is the best burnin and benchmarking software
I have just completed a build of a system. I am using XP-Pro and I have read that 3DMark does not support XP. I am just curious to find out what your suggestions are. I am not a hard core gamer but I do use graphic intensive soft ware such as Auto CAD and other design software. I have had the system running for about 3 weeks and have had no problems. I used a previously used Processor and am waiting for the new 3.4GHZ prescott to arrive. Intel keeps pushing back the delivery date to vendors. below is my system. What is your opinion when I get the new CPU?

Burning software - I'd recommend Nero
And I thought 3DMark did work on XP |

3D Mark does run in Windows XP. At least current versions. Maybe a long outdated version does not run.
I also second Nero for the burning software. RJ

Local store, or just download it from www.nero.com there you can also get your serial number using a credit card.
If you don't want to download you can also order from www.nero.com, they'll send it to you, but you have to pay shipping. RJ |

There is no "burning in a CPU". You built it, fire it up, and start working. I think a long time ago there was "burning in a CPU", but it's no more in these days.

I would recommend you cancel your Prescott order and stick with that 3.2 you have. The Prescott runs extremely hot and really is NO better than the standard Northwood you presently have. When they get the Prescott onto the LGA 775 socket, this will be a different story. If you don't care about expense and want every last bit of performance, get one of the P4 "EE" processors, this will blow away a Prescott without even working up a sweat.
Benchmarking with 3D Mark may be fun, but it won't tell you diddly squat about the performance for your intended use - it's for gamers, all it does is test the video under dynamic conditions. PC Mark is what you really need for an overall benchmark. If you feel that you really need to "burn in" your system, use Prime 95. |
