any compression utility will work and work best.

windows xp handles zip functionality natively, so you should be able to create zip files with only xp. windows xp is not my area of expertise, but maybe someone here can tell you how.

otherwise, i use winzip in windows. it is essentially a free front end for pkzip. it will bunch all the files together into a single (hopefully smaller) file. most everyone in the world can read a zip file.

here you go. no silly shareware garbage to put up with. windows will do it for free.

from: http://ict.cas.psu.edu/Training/HowT...uters/zip.html

How To Zip a file or folder

1. Select the file or folder you want to compress.
2. Right click and choose Send To
3. Slide Right and choose Compressed (zipped) folder
4. Allow the file or folder to compress.
5. You should now see an icon with the same name plus a Zip * It may even have a zipper on the folder.
6. This is the compressed file that you may put on the server or send via email.

7-Zip will also do the job, and can handle many different formats. Plus its free, and a very small download.

If you have XP, you're set. Use the Send To > compressed folder, if you don't have XP, download Winzip. Nice and simple. Don't worry about .rar files just yet. Those are what I would call a pure geek thing. .zip most everyone knows. You would probobly have to tell them where to find a .rar extractor.

If the files are already using a compressed codec, you can't really make them any smaller. If Winzip/Winace/Winrar can't compress them, they can't be compressed any more than they already are.
