MSN messenger makes me mad...
What is with MSN messenger....
There are things I don't likw about MSN messenger.... I used it once because I needed to talk to someone who only had it, and now, whenever I go into outlook express it always signs me on. I don't want to sign on, and I didn't check "Automatically Sign Me In"...so I don't know what it is doing. Also, I can't exit it...so it is always in my taskbar....and I don't want it there. It always gives me the message that other programs are using it, butI don't have any of them open (such as: Outlook Express, Internet Explorer) What do I do to get rid of it, and so that it doesn't start up when I turn my computer on? Thanks in advance. |

all you really need to do is remove it from the start up menue,
and delete the rest of the icons, and forget it |

MSN Messenger is just like AIM in that it has an option in the preferences or options area that you have to uncheck so it won't start when your computer starts. Removing it in the Start Up programs won't stop it, you have to uncheck the magic box. The inability to turn it off is a nusiance I've run into before too and haven't found a cure for it.

I only use MSN Messenger. Won't touch AOL anything. Anyway, it is not difficult to turn off. Just go to tools>options>general and uncheck the "start messenger when I log on" box. I don't see how it is a nusiance.

From the Outlook Express Help File:
To stop connecting to your messenger service Outlook Express automatically attempts to start your messenger service program and log on to its services. You can stop it from doing this. In Outlook Express, on the Tools menu, click Options. Clear the Automatically log on to your messenger service check box. In the MSN Messenger's General Preferences, uncheck "Start MSN Messenger when Windows Starts". In Microsoft Outlook, Uncheck "Enable Instant Messaging In Microsoft Outlook" on the Tools>Options>Other page. To remove Windows Messenger completely, search for the file sysoc.inf in C:\Windows\System32 (you may have to unhide the file), and edit it. Search for the line starting with "Messenger=" and remove just the word hide, leaving the commas and all the other stuff alone. Rebbot and then look for and remove all instances of Windows Messenger in Control Panel>Add/Remove Software>Add/Remove Windows Components.

TO Hi Ho: It's only a nusiance because 1. I Use AOL, and 2. I don't like when they automatically sign on, and I can't turn them off. ;-) |
