Exclamation Help!!!!!!!!

Ok guys I need some SERIOUS help here. I was helping my friend re-do his whole computer today as it was acting up. He has an AMD with 850mhz and 384mb of ram and running windows ME. I brought a windows 98 start up disk to his house and ran FDISK. I then deleted all of his partitions and created a new primary partition and made it active. next I formatted it with format C: and made it FAT32. So now I had a completely clear and formatted HD. Then I inserted my Windows XP pro disk and restarted. (i am trying to do a clean install with XP, he had ME before). I went to the BIOS and made it boot from CD-ROM. However when i inserted the windows xp disk and restarted it didnt work. It said "detecting" upon startup then it said "Ultra 100 BIOS not installed because no drives are attached". I tried again and it still didnt work. I think I really messed up his comp. I did this on my comp not too long ago. I completely erased the HD and reformatted it and when i stuck the XP disk in and restarted it went through the XP set up and I was running XP in about 2 hours. But this time it got really messed up on my friends comp. PLEASE HELP!!!!
