transparent graphics-how?

As a long time Mac user, I became used to EASY graphic work in apps such as Appleworks (still my favorite app to mix text & graphics). A very handy item I used all the time was something called 'Vanishing Cream' that allowed me to make ANY graphic I dropped into my clipboard transparent-which was a real necessity when text & graphics overlapped. So anyways--does anyone know of a quick app that does the same in XP? I still use Windows Appleworks for my text/graphic work, but I miss the easy transparency ability. thanks.
