what good free video editing software is there out there? currently i have windows media player, is that any good?

If you've got WindowsXP and are using a miniDV camera for your video input, the best free editor would be Avid Free DV. It only works with DV files, but other than that, it's a great free editor. MovieXOne was good, but it's no longer available (MovieXOne PLus is, but it's not free). Other than that, VirtualDub is the only freebie I'm aware of (other than MovieMaker).
